Jun 14, 2024

A Bermuda Police Service officer has completed a top Federal Bureau of Investigation training programme.

The FBI’s internationally recognised National Academy trains people in leadership, communications and fitness skills within a ten-week period.

Chief Inspector Arthur Glasford participated in the programme with more than 230 other officers representing 25 countries and completed it last month, being the sixth BPS officer to do so.

The head of the BPS’s professional standards department, Mr Glasford has worked in various sections of the organisation since joining as a cadet in 1989.

These include the roads policing unit, emergency response and underwater search-and-rescue teams.

Having also worked on joint investigations in Anguilla and Jamaica, Mr Glasford completed additional training programmes throughout the Caribbean and in Britain.

He has also served as the Government’s security officer and as Black Rod for the convening of Parliament in 2018.

Congratulating Mr Glasford, Darrin Simons, the Commissioner of Police, said: “I am grateful that the tradition continues of Bermuda police officers being offered the opportunity to participate in first-class training at the FBI National Academy.”

Highlighting the importance of the National Academy, Karen Grissette, the United States Consul General, said: “This professional course of study with the FBI helps to build even stronger relationships with our Bermudian partners, further strengthening our co-operation on a range of law-enforcement issues.

“Thank you to the Bermuda Police Service for your partnership and interest in professional training opportunities provided by the United States.

“I am proud and honoured to increase law-enforcement and security co-operation between the United States and Bermuda.”
